India Post GDS Selection Process 2026

One of the most important features of the GDS recruitment process is that candidates do not have to appear for a separate written examination. Selection is based on a merit list generated from the candidate's Class 10 academic performance.

India Post GDS Merit List Preparation

The GDS merit list is generated by the Department of Posts using the marks secured by applicants in their Class 10 examination. Candidates whose records contain grades or CGPA are evaluated according to the conversion procedure prescribed in the official recruitment notification.

While completing the application, applicants should refer to their original Class 10 marksheet and enter their academic details without making any changes or assumptions. Differences between the information submitted online and the original records may create problems during later stages of the engagement process.

Candidates whose names appear in the merit-based shortlist will be called for the applicable document verification stage. Their original certificates and other required records will be examined before the remaining engagement formalities are completed.

India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 – Online Application Steps

The GDS application has two primary stages: first, applicants must create their One-Time Registration (OTR), followed by submission of the detailed online application. It is advisable to keep the required personal, educational and digital documents available before beginning the process.

  9. Add the photograph and signature files in the format and dimensions prescribed for the application.

  10. Use the preview option to inspect the complete application and make corrections before proceeding.

  11. Complete the fee payment where the application fee is applicable to your category.

GDS Application – Important Checks Before Final Submission

  • Pay particular attention to the date of birth and verify it before completing the registration.

  • Provide contact details that remain active throughout the recruitment and engagement process.

  • Applicants should be aware that the registered mobile number and email address cannot be changed after registration.

  • Complete registration and application activities only through the authorized India Post GDS portal.

What Is the Next Stage After GDS Applications Close?

Once the application window ends, the eligible applications are processed for preparation of the system-generated merit list. The shortlisting process is based on the prescribed Class 10 marks calculation.

Applicants who are shortlisted must appear for document verification as required. During this stage, the concerned authorities check the original educational certificates and other documents submitted or required under the engagement rules.

Candidates who satisfy the verification requirements can proceed to the subsequent engagement formalities. Therefore, shortlisted applicants should keep their original documents available until the process is fully completed.
